Borland of Benson, Arizona served 28 years in the U.S. Army, last with the 101st Airborne Division, earning his VFW eligibility through service in Operation Iraqi Freedom and in defense of the Republic of Korea. Elected as the VFW’s 114th Commander-in-Chief at the 123rd National Convention in Kansas City — the first Iraq War veteran to hold the office — his campaign centered on a simple principle: Every Veteran Counts.
